Parking in Veliko Tarnovo: You’ll do fine with a little patience! 🙂
The tourist area of Veliko Tarnovo can be challenging for driving and parking, especially during holidays and events. Arm yourself with a bit of patience and be willing to compromise by parking within 200-300 meters of your desired destination, and you won’t encounter any problems.
In Veliko Tarnovo, we have three options for parking:
- Free parking: The city is safe, and there are many cars with foreign registrations, so don’t worry about leaving your vehicle.
- Designated paid parking
- Paid Street parking – Blue zone
1) The first convenient parking spot is the municipal parking lot at 45 Kraybrezhna Street, at the foot of the Tsarevets Fortress. (as shown on the first image)
Despite being 400 meters away from Tsarevets and not precisely in the city center, this parking lot is easily accessible and very convenient.

2) You can park for free on Kraybrezhna Street or some of the inner streets of the neighborhood.
Almost the entire Kraybrezhna Street (marked in red) is free and open for parking, and practically, there are always plenty of spaces available. Streets Iordan Indzheto and Hristo Ivanov – Voyvodata are also free for parking, but often fewer spaces are available there. Almost all other streets in the neighborhood are free to park, but occasionally, an older resident might argue that the spot in front of their house is theirs, which is not true in reality, but it’s an unpleasant experience you’d want to avoid.

3) You can use the paid street parking – Blue Zone

4) You can park freely and for free by the Asenevtsi Dynasty Monument.
Precisely because it’s a bit off the beaten path to get there, you can always find completely free parking spaces. People with campers also like to stop there. Once parked, you’re practically in the city center, passing through the pedestrian bridge „Stambolov,“ while from the „Asen Dynasty“ monument, one of the most beautiful views of Veliko Tarnovo unfolds.
