The tourist area of Veliko Tarnovo can be challenging for driving and parking, especially during holidays and events.
Arm yourself with a bit of patience and will to compromise by parking within 200-300 meters of the place you want to visit and you won’t have any problems.
In Veliko Tarnovo we have 3 options for parking:
- Free parking. The city is safe and there a lot of cars with foreign registrations, so don’t worry to leave your car.
- Designated paid parking
- Paid Street parking – Blue zone
1) The first convenient parking spot is the municipal parking lot at 45 Kraybrezhna Street, at the foot of the Tsarevets Fortress. (pictured on the first photo)
In spite of being 400 meters away from Tsarevets and not quite close to the city center, the parking is easily accessible and very convenient.

2) You can park for free on Kraybrezhna Street or some of the inner streets of the neighborhood
Almost the entire Kraybrezhna Street (in red) is free and open for parking, and practically, there are always plenty of spaces available.
Streets Iordan Indzheto and Hristo Ivanov – Voyvodata are also free for pakring, but more often there are no much free spaces there.
Almost all other streets in the neighborhood are free to park, but once in a while some old folk may start arguing that the place in front of their house is theirs, while in reality it is not, but still you don’t want this unpleasant experience.
3) You can use the paid street parking – Blue Zone

4) You can park freely and for free by the Asenevtsi Dynasty Monument.
Precisely because it’s a bit off the beaten path to get there, you can always find completely free parking spaces. People with campers also like to stop there. Once parked, you’re practically in the city center, passing through the pedestrian bridge „Stambolov“, while from the „Asen Dynasty“ monument, one of the most beautiful views of Veliko Tarnovo unfolds.
